Nominate a person or business for the Bruce R. Poinsette Award!

With the Bruce R. Poinsette Awards, Respond to Racism will honor his legacy by uplifting those who have shown a real commitment to service in creating a more equitable and inclusive Lake Oswego for everyone. This is a special opportunity for notable businesses and individuals in Lake Oswego to be honored.

The goal of the award is to highlight businesses and individuals within the community that exemplify the qualities of anti-racism within our community. All businesses within LO are eligible for this award and we encourage community members to nominate businesses. The top 3 nominees will be invited to an award gala hosted by the Youth Empowerment Coalition and Respond to Racism in Lake Oswego, where our winner will be announced to the community.

Due Oct. 31, 2024: Nominate a person or business for the Bruce R. Poinsette Award

About Bruce R. Poinsette: Bruce R. Poinsette was a beloved RtR volunteer and Lake Oswego community member. He lived a life of service heavily inspired by growing up in Jim Crow South Carolina and being part of a family with deep roots in the Civil Rights Movement. Throughout his life, he was always willing to lend a hand and educate those around him, as well as push for Black representation in particular and representation for marginalized groups in general in spaces they have historically been excluded from throughout Oregon. In May, Bruce passed away due to complications from a low risk heart procedure, unfortunately making him a statistic of the disproportionate negative impacts of the healthcare system on Black communities. With the Bruce R. Poinsette Awards, we honor his legacy by uplifting those who have shown a real commitment to service in creating a more equitable and inclusive Lake Oswego for everyone.
